But now, as more workers go from work to the office, some people wear them out of necessity.
For many, wearing sneakers on the job is part of the job.
“When I came into work, I had my own style,” says Tanya Pritchard.
“I didn’t want to have to go outside to be noticed.”
Pritchard is a sales assistant at a company that sells computer parts.
“When I started working at the company, it was like a novelty to me,” she says.
“There was a lot of pressure to be perfect.
I wore my shoes for almost every day.”
But there’s a flip side to the sneaker trend.
Pritchers shoes can get expensive and can also get messy.
“It’s hard to get your feet covered and keep it clean,” she explains.
“You want to wear the right shoes.”
