Alyssas Mastroanni, the wife of former President Joe Biden, has officially joined the political party of the Democratic National Committee.
The Daily Beast reported Friday that Mastroi’s party, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), is named for her late husband, a former senator from Delaware.
She has previously expressed support for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Senator Bernie Sanders.
Mastrois political party has more than 100,000 followers on Facebook, which is the third largest in the party.
She is also a regular guest on Fox News and other Fox shows.
The DCCC was established in May as a political action committee, and the announcement came in the form of a Facebook post by the DNC’s Chief Political Strategist, Brad Woodhouse.
The post stated that the party was formally launching on Friday, which comes at the end of the first full day of the DNC convention in Philadelphia.
The party is still in the process of registering for its national convention, which takes place on July 25 in Washington, DC.
“Alyssa’s political vision, political values, and leadership will help ensure that this historic moment for our country is a success,” Woodhouse wrote in the post.
The announcement comes as the party has struggled to regain steam following its defeat at the hands of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, and its failure to win any delegates at the convention in July.
However, it also comes at a time when the party is looking to build on its recent successes.
Last month, Mastroia joined former Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is considered the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, as a member of the DCCC, joining a slate of candidates for the party’s national convention.
The two will also meet with Vice President Joe Pence and President-elect Mike Pence during their first meeting in 2020, and Mastro is expected to speak on the vice president’s behalf during their second meeting.
“I’m thrilled to have joined the Democratic Party and am excited to be a part of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, and I look forward to working with the Vice President-Elect and Vice Chair of the Party, Congressman Keith Ellison,” Mastroani told the Daily Beast.
“As we work to build a party that will represent our country, our people, and our values, I am proud to have served as a leader for the DCC and look forward in the months ahead to working alongside the new President-designate and our national team,” she added.
The former senator and current host of Fox News’s “The Five” said in an interview that she is not interested in running for president again.
“The only thing I want to do is continue to serve my country,” Mastrocianni told the magazine.
“We will never go away.”
