The White Nationalist Party, a conservative political party in the United States, has called on the Trump administration to include Iran in a ceasefire in Syria, which would see the US military leave the country and allow Iran to have its own air bases in Syria.
The White House has previously indicated that Iran would not be allowed to have bases in the country, but this was largely due to concerns over Tehran’s nuclear program.
On Thursday, however, the Trump White House announced that Iran had agreed to be included as a party in Syria’s ceasefire deal, according to the US State Department.
While the US is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, Iran is also a member of the UN Security Council.
In November, the US said it would stop allowing Iran to export arms to the Islamic Republic, in a move that angered Tehran.
Last week, the White House also said it was ending sanctions against the country over its nuclear program, in what the US called an effort to help defuse the crisis in the Middle East.
